The standard

22 rules

Wi-Fi

Access points on a planned grid across every office, one Cat6A and PoE+ to each, three networks on the VLAN plan, and radio settings that favour steady calls over top speed.

  • Plan one access point per 150 m² of open office and one in every meeting room with 12 or more seats, then adjust with a predictive design before any cable is pulled.Designing for people and calls, not just signal, avoids a floor that shows full bars but stalls at 10 a.m.
  • Design for at least -65 dBm on 5 GHz from the nearest access point and -70 dBm from a second one everywhere people work. The second access point is what a device roams to; -65 dBm is the level UniFi recommends for steady connections.
  • Walk the floor with a survey tool after install and before handover, and fix any area below the signal target.Furniture, glass and people change the design; only a survey shows the real result.
  • Use the U7 Pro Max where more than 50 people gather, and the U7 Pro everywhere else. The Max has twice the 5 GHz streams and a dedicated spectral scanner; elsewhere the Pro does the job for less money and power.
